PHIFA Reads

“PHIFA Reads” is a literacy program which aims to prepare young children for competency in reading comprehension during their elementary school years. The curriculum is based on a resource for teaching children to read which was developed by the Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement. Instruction focuses on meeting all children at their respective levels and helping them to grow from there on in. The program focuses on five (5) pillars of reading instruction – phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text comprehension. Students are also exposed to health literacy using information from the United States Department of Agriculture food guidance strategy know as “My Plate”. As an extension our reading program, PHIFA also coordinates health themed birthday parties which feature storytelling, health related games, crafts and décor. Youth Building Conferences for Adolescents

Youth Building Conferences for Adolescents are delivered in the form of  one-day workshops which runs from 9 am to 4 pm, with two 10-minute breaks and a 40-minute lunch. PHIFA presenters will travel to your establishment in order to deliver the program content. All instructional materials are provided by PHIFA, however, participants need to bring their own snacks and lunches.

Over the course of the 6-hour instructional time, the presentation is divided into 10 priority areas. Delivery of this content takes the form of interactive lectures, role playing, skills building activities and mentorship commitments.
